Drove 3 hours to a dark site near Bend and my star trails came out as dashed lines
Turns out my interval between shots was too long so the stars had gaps. What interval do you all use for star trails, and does it change with focal length?

Did your friend figure out if wider lenses let you stretch the gap more?
