Hot take: the backyard star pics from my phone got better once I quit zooming in
Last week I took my phone out to the field behind my house in Tucson and shot Orion with no zoom at all, just the wide view. Three years ago I was pinching the screen to max and getting blurry orange blobs every single time. Turns out the sensor does fine on its own and I was the problem. Anyone else have a dumb habit that was wrecking their shots until you just let go of it?
Oh man, my buddy did the exact same thing with the moon! He kept zooming all the way in and wondering why every shot came out as a fuzzy white smear, then one night he just left it wide and the whole thing looked crisp with the trees in the frame. He was so mad at himself for wasting years of blurry pics. The zoom on these phones is mostly just cropping and stretching pixels anyway, so you lose detail fast. Letting the sensor do its thing is the move.
