Tried a different tack cloth before clear coat on a Camaro hood
I grabbed a generic one from the local supply house instead of my usual brand, just to see. The clear went on fine, but after it cured, there were these tiny little fisheyes in a few spots, maybe six total. I think the cheaper cloth left a tiny bit of residue the prep spray didn't catch. Learned my lesson to stick with what I know for the final wipe. Anyone have a brand they trust for that last step before spraying?

Sticking with what you know is safe, but I've had the opposite happen. My go-to brand left a weird film once and a generic shop towel did a better job. It might not be the cloth itself, but maybe a bad batch or how it was stored. What kind of prep spray are you using with it?

Yeah, storage is a huge thing people miss. A damp cloth left in a sealed bag or a hot garage can grow stuff you can't even see, and that'll mess up any surface. I've had that film happen with certain spray waxes too, where they just don't play nice with a particular microfiber blend. Makes you wonder if the cloth and the chemical just have a bad reaction sometimes.

My old Griot's spray wax did that film thing on my blue Eagle Edgeless towels. Switched to a basic Costco yellow microfiber and it came right off, so @drew_jones31 might be onto something with the bad reactions.
