Warning: quitting primer over bare filler is why your featheredge keeps showing
I see this in my bay in Akron at least twice a month. A guy blocks out a repair to 320, wipes it down, then sprays sealer straight over the filler and wonders why the edge ghosts through after a month in the sun. Filler pulls moisture and shrinks a hair different than the steel around it, so you need a thin coat of epoxy primer over the bare spots before any high build goes on. I have redone three jobs this spring where the customer's last shop skipped that step and the repair line came back under the clear. What are you all doing for bare filler edges, epoxy first or a wet-on-wet sealer?
Ever notice how the ghost line shows up way worse on dark colors than white? That's because dark paint soaks up way more UV and heat, so that shrink difference at the filler edge gets magnified. Epoxy first is the move, but on dark jobs I lay it a little heavier over the bare spots and let it cure full before high build.
