Appreciation post: I compared open transport vs enclosed for my 2016 Civic from Phoenix to Seattle
I had to move for a new job last spring and needed to get my 2016 Honda Civic from Phoenix up to Seattle. I got quotes from a few brokers and was torn between open transport at around $850 and enclosed at around $1,400. I went with open because the price gap felt huge and honestly I figured a Civic is not a show car. It showed up 9 days later with a cracked side mirror and a nice layer of desert dust baked onto the paint. My neighbor shipped his old Mustang enclosed the same week and his car arrived looking like it just rolled off the lot. The difference was not just the cover, it was the open carrier making 6 stops along the way and the enclosed one going straight through. Now I'm wondering if the extra $550 would have been cheaper than my $300 mirror repair plus a full detail. Has anyone here done open transport a long distance and actually come out fine, or did I just get unlucky?
