The dispatcher in Reno quoted me $1,150 for a 1,600 mile haul, then went silent
Two years back I was moving my sister's Corolla from Reno to Kansas City and got a quote of $1,150 from a dispatcher named Ray who promised pickup within 48 hours. He called me twice the first day, then nothing for a week while my sister kept paying for a rental car at $42 a day. I called the main line and a different guy said Ray was "no longer with the company" and the new price was $1,680 because they had to broker it out. That gap between the phone quote and the actual invoice is the whole ballgame with these companies, and I want to know how many of you got burned by a quoted price that magically jumped before pickup.
I mean yeah it sucks but that's kind of how the whole industry works, brokers are just middlemen trying to flip your job to whoever will take it cheapest. Ray quitting or getting fired is just bad luck more than some big scheme, the company still had to move your sister's car somehow. If you want a real price you gotta call the actual trucking companies directly and cut out the dispatcher games.
