My old deli counter job in Brooklyn got replaced by a kiosk last year

I worked at a corner deli in Brooklyn for 6 years making sandwiches and taking orders, but last fall they swapped me out for a touchscreen kiosk that does the same thing in half the time. The owner said it saved him $4,000 a month on wages, but now I'm working 20 hours a week at a warehouse instead. Has anyone else had a job just vanish like that with no warning?

You ever notice how nobody talks about the hidden costs of those things? I read somewhere that kiosks actually increase theft and mistakes because there's no person to catch errors or suspicious transactions. Plus they break down way more often than people think, and then you're stuck waiting for a repair guy who might not show up for days.

It's wild how fast these things multiply. I actually read a report last week that said self-service kiosks are taking over because they cut labor costs by like 60% (which is a huge number). The worst part is how they don't call in sick or show up late (not that real people don't have their own problems, but still). They just sit there and process orders without any drama. I guess it makes sense from a business standpoint, but it still stinks for the guys who lost their jobs. All those checkout lines getting shorter while people's paychecks disappear.
