Cleaning contacts with a pencil eraser saved a $900 repair
Had a G1000 screen flickering for weeks, swapped everything I could think of. Finally used a white vinyl eraser on the ribbon cable contacts and it's been solid for 3 days now. Anyone else got a weird trick that beat the book procedure?
Three years back I had a GNS 430 that kept dropping the GPS signal mid-flight. The book said replace the whole antenna. I was broke so I tried a regular pink eraser on the little gold pins where the antenna plugs in. Worked like a charm. That was 200 hours ago and it hasn't hiccuped once. Also fixed a stubborn autopilot disconnect issue on a friend's Arrow by cleaning the connector with a q-tip dipped in isopropyl alcohol. Sometimes corrosion is the whole problem and the book never tells you to check that first.
