Old timer at PDX showed me something I still think about
Guy I worked with back in 2019 at the Portland base caught me struggling with a bad crimp on a D-sub pin. He just said "stop rushing the prep, the crimp is just the ceremony" and walked off. Been paranoid about stripping wire right ever since. Anybody else have a mentor moment that stuck with you?

And that's exactly the kind of thing that sticks with you way more than the actual technique. It's never about the crimp or the wire itself, it's about the mindset he was trying to plant. I see that same pattern everywhere now - like people rushing to put up shelves but skipping the leveling part. The final step is just the public show, the real work is all the boring invisible stuff that makes it last. Wish more people understood that about pretty much everything in life.

Huh, interesting take but I actually kinda disagree. The prep work matters a ton sure, but the crimp IS the ceremony that seals it all together - the final step is where everything comes to life, not just some show. I think people who nail the prep but screw up the crimp still end up with trash connections.
