Spent 6 months doubting our CSV import tool, now it saves us 3 hours a week
Back in March my ops team kept complaining about manual data entry for new clients. I thought a CSV import tool was just another way to create more problems, so I ignored the requests. Then our biggest client in Chicago sent us a 2,000 row file and one of our juniors asked to try the tool we already had. He mapped everything in 20 minutes, no errors, and we've used it for every onboarding since. Has anyone else found a feature they already paid for that they just refused to trust at first?
Swear I did the same thing with our billing system last year. We had invoice templates built in that I never touched because I figured they'd mess up our branding or miss some custom field we needed. Then my bookkeeper went on leave for two weeks and I had to send out like 40 invoices solo. Took me an hour to realize the template already had everything, even the client-specific notes I thought we'd have to type by hand. That hour turned into like 10 minutes and I've never gone back. It's funny how we assume the stuff we already own is gonna be worse than the manual way we've always done it. Now I just tell people to actually test the feature before they trash it, worst case you lose a lunch break, best case you get your evenings back.
