Warning: a client in Denver ghosted me for 11 days, then sent a 4-word email that saved the deal
Back in March I had a logistics client in Denver go totally silent after our second call. I figured it was dead. Sent a follow up on day 3, nothing. Day 7, nothing. Started lining up other work.
On day 11 the ops director emailed back just four words: "send the pricing sheet." No apology, no explanation.
Turns out their whole team was at a warehouse in Aurora dealing with a broken conveyor for a week and a half. Nobody checked email. She said later that my short, no guilt trip follow ups were why she came back to me instead of the two other vendors who had been blowing up her inbox.
Now I space my follow ups out to day 3, day 8, and day 14 and keep them to two sentences. Sounds dumb but it works.
Does anyone else have a client go quiet like that and come back out of nowhere? How long do you wait before you write it off?
Did you ever find out if they were just busy or actually ignoring you on purpose? I had a guy go dark for two weeks once and I was sure it was over, but he came back saying his whole shop got hit with covid and nobody was at a desk. I usually wait about three weeks before I fully let it go, but I keep sending light check ins the whole time just in case.
