I counted 47 blowdowns on the Cascade Pass trail in one weekend and nobody warned me
Honestly I thought the trip reports from 2 weeks ago were still good enough, so I drove 3 hours to the trailhead near Marblemount with my dog and a 38 pound pack. About 2 miles in I hit the first wall of fallen hemlocks and figured it was a fluke, but by mile 5 I had scrambled over 47 of them. Some were chest high and one almost rolled on my ankle. The ranger at the wilderness desk later said a windstorm came through 9 days ago and crews had not cleared anything past the first mile. What got me mad is the sign at the trailhead still said the route was open with no notes. Has anyone else run into a stretch where a recent storm wrecked a route and the beta online was totally stale? If so, which trails should I cross off my list for the rest of this season?
