I finally quit the High Sierra Trail halfway through, the crowds did me in
Two weeks back I drove 6 hours to start the High Sierra Trail and bailed at the Kern River crossing, 3 days in. Last time I did this route in 2019 I saw maybe 4 people a day. Now it was back to back groups every mile, loud speakers, even a drone buzzing over Bearpaw Meadow. The trail itself is still gorgeous, no doubt about that. But the permit system opened up way more slots and it shows, the wilderness feels like a theme park line. Anyone else ditch a classic route because it got too popular, or is it just me being grumpy?
