Rant: the host at the hostel in Harpers Ferry told me to skip the roller coaster and I listened
I was hiking the AT through Harper's Ferry in April and mentioned I planned to push through to the roller coaster section that night, tired and low on water. A guy working the front desk there said skip it, camp at the shelter before, do it fresh in the morning. I did and it saved me. The climbs are short but relentless, and I watched a guy the next day puke on the second hump around mile 3. Anyone else gotten a tip from a random hostel worker that actually was solid?
Did that desk guy ever know he saved you? Those little humps will wreck you when you're already spent, so good call waiting till morning. Sounds like he'd seen that puke situation before and was just looking out for you.
