That shortcut trail on the Smoky Mountains map is a lie
Took the "Chestnut Ridge Connector" last October because it looked like it'd save 3 miles. Turned into a bushwhack through rhododendron hell for 45 minutes. Anyone else run into fake routes on older maps?

You ever get that feeling where you're just completely done with life and all you can do is laugh? Because yeah, I've been there. That rhododendron stuff is no joke, it's like nature's version of a brick wall. I've wasted whole afternoons on trails that looked great on paper but turned into a mess of deadfall and thorns. It's a special kind of frustration when you're staring at your map and realizing the person who drew it either never actually walked it or was having a really bad day. Makes me wonder how many of these old trail maps were done by someone sitting at a desk with a vague idea of where the ground is.

Buddy of mine tried that same shortcut last spring and his GPS had him on a game trail that dead-ended at a cliff. Said he spent an hour backtracking through thorns and poison ivy lol.
