Rethinking heavy strategy games after a chat with my niece

Funny you say that, I was the same way for years. That "someone else's homework" thing got me too - I used to think heavy games were the only "real" games. @dixon.james makes a good point about matching the game to the group instead of forcing stuff.

My neighbor said my new fence looked crooked so I grabbed a level and he was right by 2 inches

Man I used to think the same way as you, honestly I'd get annoyed too if someone came up critiquing my work while walking their dog. But after having to redo a gate last year because I ignored a tiny lean, yeah I get it now. That guy probably did you a solid even if it stung at the time. Tbh a 2 inch lean is way past the "keep an eye on it" stage, you're looking at a full collapse if you wait too long. Better to fix it now and be annoyed than rip it all out later.

Hit 1,000 records in my collection last week and it got me thinking

Oh man, I totally get that feeling. I hit about 800 a few months back and realized half of them were records I'd only played once or twice, just stuff I grabbed because it was a buck at a yard sale. I spent a whole weekend pulling out everything I hadn't spun in like two years, ended up selling maybe 300 of them at a local swap meet. Honestly, it felt way better to have a smaller stack where I actually knew every single sleeve.

Cut off my sister after she borrowed $3,000 for 'rent' and I spotted her new engagement ring on Facebook a week later

I mean not to be that person but are you totally sure the ring wasn't fake or maybe a family heirloom? Some of those CZ rings look dead on like real diamonds and cost like $50 on Etsy, I've seen them. And if she was really desperate for rent money she could have bought a cheap ring just to make her engagement look fancy on social media. Also $3,000 is a lot for rent in most places unless she's in NYC or San Fran, so maybe she just used you to cover a security deposit or something and used her own cash for the ring. Idk, either way she shouldn't have lied, but the ring price might not be as high as you think.

Got warned about an AI hiring tool bias at my last job, ignored it and paid for it

Did you get stuck dealing with the fallout too?
