Pro tip: my buddy said the arcade version of Punch-Out is beatable, and he was right about one thing
Back in 2019 I found a working Punch-Out arcade cab at a bar in Columbus for a quarter a play, and my buddy Dave kept telling me the NES version is easier than the arcade one. I told him he was crazy because I beat Mike Tyson's Punch-Out as a kid and figured the arcade game would be the same. I dropped about $12 in quarters over two weekends trying to get past Bald Bull and kept losing on the second fight every time. Dave watched me for ten minutes and said the arcade game has different timing on the dodge window, it is not just a graphics upgrade. I went home, pulled up a frame by frame video on YouTube, and he was right, the arcade version runs faster and the timing is totally different from what I had burned into my hands for 30 years. Now I can get to the third fight, and I still think the NES one is more fun even if it is slower. Anyone here actually put real time into the arcade Punch-Out, or did most of you only play the NES one like me?
Wait, $12 in quarters over two weekends just to keep losing to Bald Bull? That is wild, I would have given up after like five bucks. I had no clue the arcade version ran at a different speed, that frame by frame video must have blown your mind after 30 years of muscle memory.
