Found a coolant recipe that cut our tool wear in half...
Three weeks ago at the shop outside Cleveland, I swapped our generic coolant mix for a 7 percent concentration of this semi-synthetic stuff my buddy recommended. We run a lot of 4140 steel on a Haas VF-2, and I was burning through end mills every 40 parts on average. After the switch, I'm getting about 80 parts per tool before the edges start going. The coolant costs a bit more per gallon, like $22 instead of $15, but the tool savings are way bigger. Has anyone else played around with different coolant ratios for tougher steels?
