Pro tip: my sister ruined my grocery budget hack with one sentence about rice
My sister came over for dinner about two weeks ago and saw my pantry. I was pretty proud of it, I had it stocked on about $60 a week for two people, mostly rice, beans, eggs, and whatever chicken was marked down at the Kroger on High Street. She looked at my 10 pound bag of rice and goes, 'you know that's why you're always tired, right?' I kind of laughed it off but then she pulled up the actual nutrition info on her phone and showed me that the cheap white rice I was buying has almost nothing in it compared to brown rice that costs maybe 40 cents more a pound. I got kind of annoyed because I felt like she was judging how I feed my family, but I also couldn't stop thinking about it. So I swapped it out this week and my kids honestly did not notice the difference in the stir fry. Now I'm wondering what else I've been cheaping out on that actually costs me more in the long run. What's the one swap that made the biggest difference for you without wrecking your food budget?
