Just realized I was wrong about my mom's 9/11 joke after 6 years of getting mad at her
My mom told a joke about airport security back in 2019 and I told her it was too soon and barely talked to her for a week. Last month I heard the same joke from a comic at a small club in Detroit and I laughed so hard I almost choked on my drink. What changed was seeing the whole room laugh together, including two guys in uniform, and nobody looked hurt or upset. I still think timing and who is telling it matters a lot, but I was wrong that some topics are just off limits forever. Where do you all draw the line, is it about the joke itself or who is saying it?
Ever notice how the same joke lands different depending on who's holding the mic? A buddy of mine almost got decked for a plane joke at a bar, then killed with the exact same line at a roast a month later.
