Shoutout to the $60 cedar fence I put up crooked, because it still kept my dog in the yard for 3 winters
Everyone on here says you need to set posts in concrete or your fence is junk, but I built a 40 foot run with pressure treated posts just pounded 2 feet into my clay soil in Rockford and it has not moved. Last Saturday I finally pulled one post to check and it was still solid as day one after 3 winters of frost heave. Now I get why the old guys say concrete just holds water against the wood and rots it faster. Is there anyone here who has actually had a pounded post give out, or is that just something people repeat?
Same deal here, pounded mine about 30 inches into that heavy clay and they have not budged through three winters either... my neighbor swore I was nuts until we dug one up and it looked brand new. The concrete guys are just repeating what their dads said, and honestly most of them have never pulled a post to check. I have yet to hear from one person who actually had a pounded post fail.
