Told my grandma I use a kitchen scale for baking and she laughed for a solid minute

She said 'back in my day we just grabbed a handful of flour and called it a day' and honestly, now I wonder if I'm overthinking my hydration ratios. Has anyone else had a old-school baker totally dismiss your methods?

Tell her grandma had scales but just didn't bother with them.

Wow no that's just teaching her that lying is okay and that's a terrible lesson. Kids pick up on that stuff way more than adults think. Plus it makes it seem like scales are something to be embarrassed about or hide. Better to just be honest and say you didn't want to weigh yourself or you forgot. Lying about details like that sets a bad example for how she deals with her own body and numbers later on.

Nah, saying grandma didn't bother with them still isn't great because it teaches the kid that adults can skip stuff they don't feel like doing. Better to just keep it simple and say something like "we had them but mom forgot to use them today" or "they're packed away somewhere." Kids really do notice when we bend the truth and it can make them second-guess what we say later on.
