Am I the only one who thinks holiday baking for others is often a miss?

Everyone seems to love giving baked goods as gifts during festive times. I disagree because it can lead to more fails than wins. For instance, I once spent a weekend making pies for my coworkers, but several had diet issues and couldn't eat them. Another time, a neighbor quietly tossed my cookies because they were too sweet for their taste. It puts pressure on both the baker and the receiver. I feel we should check if people even want homemade treats before we bake. What do you all think about this?

You know what changed my mind on this? I used to bake a ton of stuff for everyone without asking. Then I found out my cousin is diabetic and my friend's kid has a nut allergy. Felt pretty bad they couldn't eat any of it. Now I just shoot a quick text first, like Mary said. Saves time and avoids that awkward waste.

A simple text asking about allergies made all the difference for my cookie gifts.

Why is it so hard for people to just ask the basic questions upfront? I see this everywhere, like folks just assume instead of checking. That little bit of effort saves so much hassle.

Right? It's like people would rather spend an hour cleaning up a mess than 30 seconds asking "hey, can you eat this?" lol. Saw a guy at work once bring in a whole cake, only to find out the birthday person was doing keto. The look on his face was priceless.
