Vent: A simple string trick saved me from a bad swing yesterday

I was setting a big AC unit on a roof in Toledo, and the wind kept pushing it sideways right at the last foot. My spotter, Frank, yelled up that we were going to hit the parapet. On a total hunch, I stopped the hoist, grabbed a spare tagline from my bag, and tied a quick loop around the unit's lifting eye, giving myself a second pull point from the ground. We used that to guide it straight in, no contact. Has anyone else used a secondary tagline like that for fine control in tight spots?

Dropped $300 on a powered knee kicker and it changed the game

Got it for a big commercial job in a Phoenix office building, all that Berber carpet. My old manual kicker was killing my shoulder after the first few rooms. This thing has a little motor that does the hard push for you, just guide it. Saved me at least two hours on the install and zero pain the next day. Anyone else using these for large spaces or am I just late to the party?

Spent a full day on a stuck shutter blade in a Minolta X-700

I had this X-700 where one blade was just frozen, and I kept trying my usual solvents and gentle nudges with a spudger. It turned out a tiny bit of old, hardened foam from the light seal had migrated and glued itself to the blade's pivot point, which I only found after taking the whole curtain assembly apart. Has anyone else run into foam residue causing a jam like that, and what's your go-to cleaner for it?

My bathroom tile was cracking at the corner and I fixed it with a $4 tube of caulk

The grout in my shower kept cracking at the floor corner, letting water in. I was about to re-grout the whole section, which seemed like a huge job. Then I watched a video from a guy in Phoenix who said to clean it out and fill the gap with a flexible silicone caulk instead. I bought some GE Silicone 2, cleaned the crack really good, and squeezed it in. It's been six months with no new cracks. Has anyone else used caulk for this, or is there a better fix I should know about?

My city's job application bot thought I was a cat for 3 weeks

I applied for a permit to open a small cafe in Phoenix, and their automated system flagged my application as 'fraudulent' because my last name is Cooper and my business name was 'Cooper's Corner'. The algorithm decided it was a duplicate identity, lol. I spent 21 days calling and emailing before a human finally looked at it and cleared it in 5 minutes. Has anyone else had an algorithm just completely misunderstand basic info like that?

Switched from a 4-foot level to a laser for a big commercial job in Austin and it changed the game.

The foreman wanted us to stick with the old levels for a 30-foot retaining wall, but I rented a DeWalt laser for the week. We finished the layout in half a day and the line was perfect the whole way. Anyone else made the jump to lasers for big runs and never looked back?
