TIL my grandma's butter vs shortening cookie choice was right

Honestly, I was making chocolate chip cookies for my neighbor's birthday and had to pick between using all butter or half shortening like my grandma always did. I went with the shortening mix and they came out perfectly soft even after two days, which never happens with my usual recipe. Has anyone else found an old family trick that actually works better?

Tbh it's just a cookie, not a science project. Grandma was probably just using what she had.

Yeah, that's how my dad makes soup. Just grabs whatever's left in the fridge, some old herbs from the garden, maybe a can of beans. Never the same twice, but it always works. He calls it "fridge clean-out stew.
