My brother's 30 minute explanation of vinyl vs digital finally made it click
Last Sunday my brother came over with his old turntable and a stack of records from our childhood. I've always argued digital is better because it's cleaner and easier, but he sat me down and played the same song on vinyl and then on my phone. He pointed out the little pops and the warmth, and said it's like listening to a room instead of a sound file. I thought he was being a snob for years, but hearing it back to back, I finally got why people collect this stuff. It's not about perfect sound, it's about the feeling of sitting with the music and not skipping tracks. Now I'm wondering if I should buy my first record player or if that's just nostalgia talking. Has anyone else had a sibling or friend flip their opinion on something like this after a long talk?
