My grandma said my resume was too honest and I think she might have ruined my chances
Sat with my grandma at her kitchen table in Fresno on Sunday and she read my resume out loud line by line. She stopped at the part where I described my last job and said nobody hires a person who admits they got laid off, and she wants me to write "left for new opportunities" instead. I argued with her for 20 minutes but then she pulled out her old resume from 1987 and there is not one single hard truth on it. Now I am second guessing whether honesty is even the move or if everyone just games this thing. Has anyone else had a family member rewrite their resume and actually been right about it?

That line about your grandma pulling out her 1987 resume with not one hard truth on it really got me. Mine did the same thing when I got let go a few years back and swore up and down that "left for new opportunities" was the only way. Honestly she was kinda right, but it still feels gross having to word things that way. Sorry you're stuck second guessing yourself over this.
