Question about the 43 challenged books I counted on one school's shelf in Boise
So last month I'm doing a fencing install at an elementary school out in Boise and the librarian lets me peek at her shelves while I'm waiting on a parts run. She has this cart in the back with 43 books on it, all pulled because somebody filed challenges this year. I start flipping through and it's stuff like Captain Underpants and a picture book about a penguin with two dads. The weird part is nobody ever actually finished reading most of them, the forms were like half filled out, one just said "inappropriate" with no page number. I've been in a lot of buildings and never thought much about this stuff, but seeing 43 paperbacks stacked on a cart because of 6 complaint forms kind of got to me. The librarian said she's had the same three parents file most of them. Nobody is out here banning fences I guess, but 43 books seems like a lot to pull over three opinions. Has anyone else actually counted the cart at their local school?
