Vent: School board pulled a book after one parent complained, no one read it
Last month my local board in Columbus removed "The House on Mango Street" from the 8th grade list after a single parent said it was too mature. The committee that voted on it admitted at the meeting they hadn't read the book cover to cover, just skimmed the passages the parent flagged. Now I'm torn between saying we should trust parents to opt their kid out versus pulling the book for everyone. Has anyone else dealt with a removal that felt rushed like this, and did you fight it or let it go?

Wait, did the board members actually say they hadn't read it, or did they just imply it? Because that's a huge difference. If they straight up admitted that at a public meeting, that's a paper trail you can use. Did anyone record the meeting or grab the minutes? Seems like that detail could be the whole game if you wanna push back.
