Got a temp ban on r/DIY for pointing out wet tile saw safety

Ngl, I posted a comment on a tile cutting video saying the guy should wear a respirator because silica dust is no joke. I linked the OSHA guidelines and everything. Got a 7 day ban for "fearmongering" even though I was just trying to save someone from lung issues down the road. Has anyone else been slapped for sharing basic safety stuff on a DIY sub?

You're quoting "fearmongering" like it's some unfair label, but honestly, that rule exists for a reason. Posting links to OSHA guidelines on a casual DIY video comes off preachy, not helpful. Most people there already know you should wear a mask around dust, they're not looking for a lecture on long term health risks from some random commenter. The mods probably saw it as over the top fear mongering because the guy was just showing a tile cut, not a construction site. If you really want to help, leave a simple "wear a respirator" and move on, don't link a whole government document. The ban sucks, but you kinda asked for it by treating a hobby forum like a safety seminar.

The whole "just shut up and enjoy the video" thing is way bigger than just that DIY forum honestly. People want help but only if it comes wrapped in the perfect tone these days (too much sugar coating). I've noticed this everywhere from cooking groups to car repair forums where someone posts a wrong method and if you correct them too directly you're the bad guy. It's like we've lost the ability to separate helpful info from someone's delivery. The mods probably get a ton of reports from people who just want their casual scrolling without anyone reminding them they might be breathing in cancer dust for fun. We're all walking around with this weird expectation that every interaction online has to be either entertainment or pure validation, never actual education.
