Am I the only one who thinks a $12 Wahl beret beats my $90 shears for fades
Did a side by side last Tuesday on the same head, clipper over comb with my old dear shears then with the cheap beret I got at the beauty supply on Main. The beret cut cleaner because the shorter blade gave me way more control against the grain, and my shears kept snagging on the cowlick at the crown. I've been reaching for it all week and my wrist doesn't ache at the end of a 9 hour day anymore. Anyone else got a cheap tool that outcuts the pricey one?
Doubt the beret is really the better tool here. One head on one Tuesday is not a fair test, and a shears that snags on a cowlick probably just needs a tune up or a better angle, not replacing. Shorter blades feel easier because they take smaller bites, but that same short blade makes it harder to keep a straight line on longer work, so you may just be trading control now for problems later. The wrist thing could be from holding the shears wrong or gripping too hard, and switching tools only hides that. Give the shears a real sharpening and check your finger position before you crown the cheap one.
