Stripping paint with a heat gun finally clicked after 9 years
I've been doing rust and paint removal on old car doors for almost a decade, always used chemical stripper and a wire wheel. Yesterday I was working on a 1970 Torino in Spokane and the stripper kept gumming up in the cold, so I grabbed my dad's old heat gun out of desperation. That thing peeled the layers off like butter in about 20 minutes, and I realized I'd been wasting hours every single project fighting with chemicals. Has anyone else stuck with their usual method way too long before trying the obvious tool that was sitting in the shop the whole time?

Honestly that's how it goes with so much stuff, not just shop work. You get locked into doing something one way because that's how you always did it, then one day you're forced to try the other thing and you feel like an idiot for the last decade. Tbh it's the same reason I still have a drawer full of crap I never use but refuse to throw out.
