Warning: ask the seller about hidden rot before you even look at a barn find
Had a convo with a guy in St Joseph last week who flips old trucks. He said he stopped buying anything that sat on dirt floors because 9 times out of 10 the sills and floor pans are gone under the carpet of leaves. He told me, "If the barn smells like wet mulch, walk away unless you can weld for a month." That hit different because I almost drove 3 hours to see a '72 F100 that looked perfect in photos. Turns out the seller didn't mention the cab corners were basically dust. Has anyone else gotten burned by hidden rot that didn't show up in pictures? Or do you always check the frame rails first?

Three hours one way to see a rot box, that's rough. I mean, is a wet mulch smell REALLY a deal breaker though? People act like a little rust is the end of the world when half these barn finds are basically parts trucks anyway.
