A retired frame builder in Denver told me torque specs are a crutch and I've been chewing on it for 3 days
He said he built wheels for 30 years by feel alone and never owned a torque wrench, which sounds like bravado until you watch him lace a rim in 20 minutes flat, so now I'm wondering how many of us hide behind the spec sheet instead of learning what tight actually feels like in our hands.
