Old timer told me to grease the pedal threads, laughed it off, now I owe that guy a beer
Last summer a retired mechanic in Portland warned me that dry pedal threads would seize after one rainy season, I ignored him, and 3 weeks ago I spent 4 hours with a breaker bar and penetrating oil to get a stripped set out of a customer's crankset.
My Park Tool grease gun lives half a mile from my bench, so I run pedals dry too and only had one seize in 12 years. Different climate here though, so maybe that Portland rain is the real difference maker.
