Thought the credit repair company was a scam until my score jumped 60 points

I signed up for one of those credit repair services back in March mostly to prove my buddy wrong who swore by them. They disputed a couple of old medical bills from 2018 that I had forgotten about, and after 3 months my FICO went from 592 to 652. I still think most of them are trash, but the one thing that actually worked was them finding a collections account that was past the statute of limitations in Arizona. Has anyone else had luck getting old debts removed without paying them?

Chat with a senior dev who's been coding since the 80s changed my view on AI tools

I was pair programming with Mark, a guy who wrote his first program on a punch card, and he said AI is just another autocorrect on steroids. He pointed out that coders in his day copied snippets from books and modified them, same as I copy from Copilot now. Anyone else have an old school coder shake up how you see AI in your workflow?

Switched my butter temp trick and finally got cookies that didn't spread into pancakes

Kept having my chocolate chip cookies turn into flat greasy messes until I tried cubing cold butter and letting it sit exactly 12 minutes on the counter instead of microwaving it soft, anyone else struggle with butter temperature ruining their batches?

Serious question about tool wear tracking methods

I keep seeing everyone on here swear by tracking tool life with spreadsheets and manual logs. Been doing that for about 18 months at my shop in Phoenix and I think it actually made things worse. The difference I saw was around month 6 - my insert life started dropping by about 12% because guys were forgetting to log changes or fudging the numbers. What really opened my eyes was watching a new kid just eyeball his tool changes based on sound and finish quality, and his scrap rate was half of mine. I think we got so caught up in data that we forgot the basics of paying attention to the machine. Has anyone else had their production go sideways after switching to a strict tracking system?

Took me 4 months to fight a bogus DMCA on my own video

Wrote a review of a phone case. Company didn't like it. Filed a takedown on my whole channel. YouTube's appeals process is a black hole. Had to file a counter-notice. They gave me 10 days. Waited. Nothing. Took another 14. Finally got it restored. 4 months for a 2 minute video.

Just realized skipping intros during my binge ruined part of the show for me

I recently binged a crime drama and skipped the intro every episode to save time. I mean, who doesn't do that, right? But after I finished, I found out that the intro visuals actually had Easter eggs related to each episode's plot. Now I feel like I cheated myself out of some cool details. Maybe it's just me, but I never considered intros as part of the story. When you binge, it's easy to just jump into the action. I'm wondering if I should start paying more attention to these things. Idk, maybe binge-watching makes us rush too much. What do you guys think?

Pin oxidation had me stuck on transponder tests for hours

I was getting false failures on every transponder I bench tested. After checking everything, I noticed the data port pins looked dull. A quick clean with contact cleaner fixed it right up. Now I make sure to check connectors first thing.

PSA: My cookie dough looked perfect until I realized I swapped salt for sugar

Oh man, that's rough. I've definitely grabbed the wrong container before when I'm not paying attention. Salt and sugar look so similar in those shaker jars, it's an easy mistake to make when you're rushing through the recipe. You bite into what you think is going to be a sweet cookie and get that nasty salty shock instead. Grandma's recipe deserves better than that.

Unpopular opinion: Canned beans beat dried beans for weeknight meals and I'll die on this hill

My Aldi in Columbus has them for $0.95 a can on a good day and I just grabbed 6 cans of black beans for a taco night that literally took me 10 minutes from start to plate. Dried beans sound great in theory but have you actually tried to time them right when you get home from work at 6pm and everyone is hungry by 7? I forgot to soak them twice in a row last winter and ended up ordering Chinese food both times, cost me way more than canned ever would. So what's your go-to canned bean recipe that saves you the most hassle on a busy night?
