My grandpa's 1962 World Series radio bet and why I think the timeline split
My grandpa swore up and down that he listened to Game 7 of the 1962 World Series on his porch in San Jose, and he always claimed the Giants won it 1-0 on a walk off. Here is the thing, the Yankees won that game 1-0, so for 30 years we just figured he was mixed up in the head. Then last month I found a 1963 pocket notebook of his where he wrote down the score and drew little stick figures of McCovey rounding the bases. I started digging and found maybe 40 other people online who remember a Giants win too, all from around the Bay Area, all before 1965. I think something glitched in the timeline that October and a few of us got left holding the wrong ending. Does anyone else have a family story like this where the records say one thing but everybody at the table remembered it different?
The "timeline glitched" thing is a fun idea but 40 people in the Bay Area all remembering the wrong ending sounds less like a split timeline and more like how memory works. My uncle swears he saw the Padres win the 98 Series and he was at a BBQ in Fresno, turns out he was listening to a replay on the radio and mixed up the years. Folks in the Bay in 62 were heartbroken over that McCovey line drive, so it makes sense the brain would rather file away the happier version. The notebook is cool but your grandpa could have just written down the game he wished happened.
