My insulin copay went from $340 to $25 after one phone call
I spent three years paying $340 a month for insulin through my old plan. My doctor's office kept saying to call my insurer and ask about the manufacturer coupon, but I figured it was a scam. Last week I finally did it, took about 20 minutes on hold, and now I pay $25 at the pharmacy. Why did no one tell me this earlier, has anyone else been sitting on a savings program they never knew about?

That $340 to $25 jump is real, but the coupon isn't the whole story. Most manufacturers have a patient assistance program that works alongside your insurance, and some states cap insulin copays at $35 or less now, depending on your plan. The doctor's office probably mentioned it, but they're not always up to date on the latest pharmacy benefit details, so you still did the right thing by calling.
