My pharmacy wait turned into a realization about refill timing
Sat in the CVS lobby for 45 minutes last Thursday just to pick up my blood pressure meds, and I noticed the guy next to me had been waiting on a prior authorization for 5 days. He said his doctor's office kept blaming the insurance, and the insurance blamed the pharmacy, and nobody seemed to own the problem. Why is it that a $3 pill can cost me hours of my life but a $50 co-pay gets processed in two minutes?

...and honestly the only thing that ever got mine moving was calling the insurance myself while sitting right there in the pharmacy. I put the pharmacist on speaker with the insurance rep and we all three figured it out in like ten minutes. The doctor's office had been sending the prior auth to the wrong fax number the whole time, nobody checks those things. So my advice is don't wait for the middlemen to talk to each other, you gotta be the squeaky wheel and get everyone on the same line at once. Also ask the pharmacy if they can give you a few pills to tide you over, most of them have a loaner program for stuff like blood pressure meds. It's ridiculous that we have to manage all this ourselves but that's just how it is now.
