Found out our monthly group dinner was costing us $38 each in fees

I run the bill for our 6 person dinner crew in Austin and noticed the totals never added up to what the menu said. Last month I sat down with the receipts and added the service charge, taxes, and the mandatory 20% gratuity the restaurant sneaks on for groups over 5. Turns out we were each paying an extra $38 every single time. We switched to a place that doesn't auto-add gratuity and now we tip based on actual service. Has anyone else caught this with their regular group spot?
