Swapped my coal forge for propane... not looking back
I finally caved and bought a propane forge last month after using a coal one for about 12 years. The first few fires were rough, I kept cranking the regulator too high and burning my work. But after I dialed it in to 8 PSI I got a steady neutral flame and man, the control is just way better. Anyone else made the switch and had to relearn their heat treating temps?

Heard propane gives you way better control, less guesswork on heat.

Yeah @cole_flores44 it hits the same mark. It's like when people argue over cast iron vs nonstick pans. One gives you more control and the other is just easy but you're guessing on heat management. Same thing with charcoal vs propane grills. Charcoal folks swear by the flavor but propane lets you dial in temp without babysitting it. It's a whole tradeoff between feel and consistency across cooking gear.

You ever find yourself defending your cooking setup and suddenly you're in a whole philosophy debate? I feel this so hard. My buddy swears by his charcoal setup for summer cookouts and I get it, the flavor is great. But man, when I'm trying to get dinner on the table after a long day, nothing beats just flipping a switch on my propane grill and knowing exactly where the heat's at. It's like the difference between driving a manual car and an automatic transmission, you know? Both get you there but one requires a lot more attention the whole way.
