Update: I dropped $180 on a gas forge kit last spring and it was the wrong call for my setup
I kept reading online that a gas forge is the fast track for a beginner, so I bought a two burner kit for $180 plus a $60 regulator and hose, and got it running in my garage in April. Problem is my garage has one small window and a cracked side door, so I could not get enough airflow to breathe easy, and I spent more on a CO monitor and a second fan than I did on the forge itself. I went back to the coal forge I built from a brake drum, and I get more even heat along the whole bar anyway, which matters way more for the tong and knife work I actually do. Your mileage may vary if you have a real shop with a vent hood, and I am not saying gas is bad, just not the automatic first buy people make it out to be. Anyone got a cheap way to vent a small garage so the thing is actually usable?
