Finally watched The Godfather Part III last night and I want my 3 hours back

I finally sat down to watch The Godfather Part III after putting it off for years. I paid $4 to rent it on Amazon and honestly I feel robbed. The whole thing felt forced especially with Sofia Coppola's acting. Anyone else think this movie gets more credit than it deserves just because it's attached to the first two?

Wait, didn't The Godfather Part III come out in 1990? I could've sworn it was way older than that. Anyway, yeah, Sofia Coppola's acting is pretty rough, but I think people mostly talk about the first two movies and just kind of pretend the third one doesn't exist.

The helicopter scene alone in Part III makes me laugh every time. But here's what I've always wondered do you think the movie actually had a good story buried under all the miscasting and weird pacing? Like if they had gotten a different actor for Michael's daughter and maybe trimmed 20 minutes off the runtime, could it have worked as a decent sequel? Because I remember there's this moment where Michael finally confesses to the cardinal and it feels like it should hit harder but it just kind of lands flat.

@emery290 has a point about the confession scene, but the movie's pacing isn't the problem. Winona Ryder dropped out, so they had to use Sofia and it killed the whole cast.
