Had to choose between a 1989 Walkman and a 2002 Discman for a road trip, picked wrong
Last month I drove from Austin to El Paso, about 9 hours, and brought both my old Sony Walkman and my buddy's Discman. I figured the Discman would win on sound quality, but I forgot that thing skips on every bump, and Texas highways are basically gravel with paint. The Walkman had this weird hiss after 20 minutes because the belt is worn, but at least it kept playing. I ended up switching to AM radio by hour 3, which was honestly the worst of both worlds. Has anyone else tried to go retro for a long drive and immediately regretted it, or am I just cursed with fading tech?
