He grew up dropping quarters into cabinets at a bowling alley on Sylvania Ave back in the 80s and kept saying the good ones had real weight behind every move. Mine clicks fine but the case is plastic and felt like a toy next to his old Sanwa parts build. So I opened it up, added a steel plate inside, and suddenly my inputs in Tetris Attack felt way more steady. Anyone else notice that old hardware just had more heft or is that me being nostalgic?
Noticed the same thing with hand tools. My dad's old Estwing hammer from the 70s has this dead weight that just kills the bounce, and every cheap hammer I buy now rings like a bell and wears my arm out. Same deal with cast iron pans and old sewing machines, the mass absorbs the vibration so your body isn't fighting the tool. Companies stripped all that out to save on shipping and materials, and we just got used to shaky plastic stuff. Your grandpa knew what was up.
