Am I the only one who noticed the game store on 5th Street has a whole shelf nobody touches?
I ducked into a game store on 5th Street in Eugene on a rainy Tuesday because my nephew wanted a birthday gift and I had an hour to kill. While he dug through the card games, I stood by a shelf near the back wall marked "gateway games" and just watched. In 40 minutes, 12 people came in, and not one of them walked within 10 feet of that shelf. Everyone went straight to the miniatures wall or the used bin, and two guys even stepped around a copy of Catan like it was furniture. I asked the guy behind the counter if the shelf ever sells, and he said maybe one game a week, mostly to parents. What got me was that this is the same store that taught me to play 8 years ago, and that shelf used to be the front door for new people. Now it feels like a waiting room. Does anyone else see this in their local store, or is it just mine?
