Learned that Catan has a world champion, blew my mind
I was browsing BGG after a game night and found out there's actually a World Championship for Settlers of Catan. The 2024 winner is a guy named Timofey Shcherbakov from Russia. I always thought tournaments were just for stuff like chess or Magic. Has anyone here ever tried to qualify for one of those events?

Whoa, have you actually watched a championship match? Is it as tense as it sounds?

Nah you're thinking of like the final match of a tournament, right? Championship matches are just the last game between the top two players or teams. I've caught a few like the League of Legends worlds finals and yeah its tense but in a different way. More like you're watching two really good teams who've been playing all day and they're tired but still going at it. The tension comes from knowing one bad play and its over after hours of grinding. Not like a sudden death overtime thing in regular sports.
