inFinally fixed a squeaky aperture ring that had me stumped for 3 days
Old grease is the worst. Had a similar thing with a Nikon 50mm from the 70s, except the focus ring just locked up completely one winter. Took the whole thing apart on my kitchen table, tiny springs everywhere. Still finding them in the rug months later. Naphtha sounds smart though. I just used lighter fluid and prayed a lot. The fix worked but my wife still gives me side-eye about the smell.

inPaid $120 for a water softener that made my pipes rattle like a haunted house
Funny how we pay good money for things that end up making our lives harder, right? Seems like every “cheap fix” I’ve ever bought just creates a new, sneakier problem down the road. It’s like the universe has a rule about shortcuts, especially with anything that touches water or electricity in your house. Honestly, that rattling probably means the pressure or flow is off, which can shorten the life of the whole unit anyway. I’d get a pro to look at it before you decide to rip it out, but yeah, sometimes the initial cost just isn’t worth the 3 AM surprise concerts...

inTried a glass bowl for my sourdough starter, never going back to plastic
Glass mason jar with a cloth cover sounds nice and all, but it's still just a jar. I've kept my starter in a plastic deli container for like two years and the crusty lid thing only happens if I forget to burp it. You're acting like seeing bubbles from the side is some kind of magic trick. I can just open the lid and look, takes two seconds. And honestly, overfermentation is more about your feeding schedule than what container you use. Did the glass actually fix anything, or did you just get more into a routine?
