Hit $1,000 in my coffee can on the fridge after 7 months of all cash
Started stuffing every $5 and $10 bill I got into an old Folgers can back in March, mostly from skipping the card at the Kroger on 5th. Counted it out Sunday night on the kitchen table and hit $1,040, which is the most actual money I've ever held at once. My wife thought I was nuts for not putting it in savings, but seeing it stack up in the can is the only thing that's ever kept me from tapping it. Anyone else keep a physical stash at home, and where do you hide yours?
My grandpa did the can thing but with a coffee mug on top of the fridge, and he swore the trick was never breaking a bill unless he had to. He'd pay for a $4 sandwich with a $20 just to get the change back and dump the coins in the mug. That's the part that adds up faster than people think, the singles and change you forget about.
