TIL that staying in a hostel in Lisbon for $18 a night beat my $95 hotel room in ways I didn't expect
I booked a cheap hostel in Lisbon two months back mostly because I was broke and it was $18 a night versus $95 for the hotel down the street. What got me was the free walking tour board in the lobby and the kitchen where everyone cooked their own pasta, so my food bill for four days came out to about $22 total. Nobody warns you that the shared kitchen is the real budget hack, not the bunk bed. I ended up swapping leftover groceries with a guy from Dublin and splitting a cab to the airport, which knocked another $15 off. Has anyone else found that the cheapest place to sleep is also the cheapest place to eat, or did I just get lucky?
